Kentaro Hayashi

Born in 2002, Hayashi begins creating his artworks by setting several small cups around a canvas and squeezing paint into the cups one by one. Next, he lifts the cups high in the air, drops all the paint onto the canvas, and spreads it with his hand. After completing this routine, which looks like some kind of his original etiquette, he strokes the paint, as if admiring its texture, and then taps the paint on the canvas rhythmically as if playing with it. The unexpected traces of the splattered paint and the undulation of the colors, which seem to have a will of their own, allow viewers to make their own interpretations.
